Real estate broker pitches new day for dads

Newark-based real estate broker Christian Benedetto Jr. today launched a new way to celebrate Father’s Day: “Take Your Father To Work Day.”Benedetto wants today – the Wednesday before Father’s Day – to be a day for grown sons and daughters to bring Dad along with them to their offices, factories or shops to spend some quality time, while also exploring the role of work on their lives.

A month ago, Benedetto launched a Web site, DaddyOutpost.com, to spread the word, and he said more than 100 people nationwide will participate in today’s inaugural “Take Your Father To Work Day.”

“Everyone I talk to tells me they don’t spend enough time with their dad,” said Benedetto, who became a dad when Christian Benedetto III was born 14 months ago to he and his wife, Suzy Kiall Benedetto. Both are partners at Hopkins, Sampson & Brown Real Estate Advisory Service, which represents landlords and tenants in retail, office and medical real estate.

His brother, Michael, actually will be having lunch today with their father, Christian Benedetto Sr., but Chris Benedetto plans to take his dad to work with him on another day soon. He figures the event will be a success if it gets sons and daughters to make a date with their fathers.
Work and family life are major distractions from relationships with dads, Benedetto said. “One of my friends, his father lives with him and his family – and even he says he doesn’t spend enough time with his dad,” he said.
